Aylın Örek Retrospective
21 November 2018 - 15 January 2019
CerModern will host again a female artist in the second exhibition of the season.
Aylın Örek, one of the leading artists of the Turkish Cypriot community, will meet Ankara artlovers with 100 artworks from 60's to today.
Born in Nicosia in 1941, Örek's interest in painting, which began in his high school years, continued in Istanbul Academy of Fine Arts with a scholarship given to a Cypriot artist for the first time. Developing his style in the workshops of Nurullah Berk and Ali Çelebi, Örek continued her education in Paris and Marseille with further scholarship from the French government.
Describing the Cypriot culture in a fairytale narration in its forms and metaphors, Örek focuses on the cultural and social panorama, rituals, history and daily life of the geography in which she lives. The artist, who approaches the universal language with her understanding of color and line, has customized this sensation in her trips abroad.
Except her homeland Cyprus, Örek lived and worked in France, Spain, Belgium, Turkey and Ivory Coast Her works are included in prestigious collections.
The exhibition will be held in cooperation with CerModern and Art Gallery Cyprus. The curatorship of the exhibition is undertaken by Ahmet Savaş Kale.
