Jaisalmer Yellow PAINTING EXHIBITION

28.09.2010 - 12.10.2010

The Embassy of India in collaboraiton with Cermodern Sanatlar Merkezi and with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey is proud to present an exhibition of 25 modern paintings created by renowned artists from South Asian region. The exhibiton is titled “Jaisalmer Yellow” due to the fact that all these paintings were created in the central and historical indian city of Jaisalmer.

Young and prominent artists from member countires of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka) gathered to create a common tool of expression on canvas that underscored the convergence and synergy of cultural traditions. This ten-day camp was also able to achieve the larger goal of creating a vibrant mosaic of diverse painting traditions.

“Jaisalmer yellow” is able to present the painting genius of the region to Turkish society and contribute to building bridges with Turkish culture. This may lead to deeper and wider synergies between the artists of Turkey and those from the Indian Subcontinent and the SAARC region.

H.E. Mr. Ertuğrul Günay, Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey has very kindly agreed to inaugurate “Jaisalmer Yellow” at 1900 hrs (7 PM) on September 28, 2010 at Cermodern Sanatlar Merkezi, Altınsoy Caddesi No. 3, Sıhhiye, Ankara. The exhibition will continue till October 12, 2010.
