IF THE NATURE IS HEAVEN, THE CITY IS HELL / YAYGARA Contemporary Art Initiative

In the past the lifes which come together by the proposition of the class difference occured with social inequality within spatial expressions which tended to experience certain tensions and conflicts. Moreover, each space creates its own social class and it constitutes the signs, trends and some codes of that social class. We can say that the case of separation from eachother / exclusion of the others has been created by a wall or the space itself has created these autonomous places. The isolated lifes in the settlements which have transformed into a closed social form by seperating from the other and electing its political power , hold off the others on the other side of the wall. The city has been fragmented, the public spaces has already lost their function. Thereby some local spaces in the city and some social groups aparting from eachother and polarized in these spaces has been formed. We can see this distinction from the time differences they have. In these places the “time” is carried inside of the “space” and the determinat of “time” is the trend. The best one is the newest one. The concept of “trend”/”trendy” related with capitalism leaks into the spaces by using “time”. In this manner the spaces relates itself to an economic meaning and gets its’ impetus. Altough the cities were the places where the people from different cultures cometogether, now it has decomposed into the social groups not touching eachother. Therefore it creates a kind of conflict on existence of cities. The case of being away from eachother, altough they are so close to eachother has created a kind of reflex of indifferent to the others life. The city generates new social groups depending on social differences according to the different nationality, religious and language concepts sheltered in it. These homogenious social groups in their spaces differentiate with a new identity in the city. However, conflicts are inevitable when these groups have to meet. According to Baudlaire, the city is fake and artificial; diabolical, not godlike and its heros are damned, bad and ugly. If the nature is haven; the city is hell.
