06.12.2010 - 19.01.2011

CerModern will be hosting Mehmet Gunyeli and Bejan Matur’s art project called “ The Sea of Fate”.

‘The Sea of Fate” art project comprises abstract photographs by Mehmet Gunyeli and poems by Bejan Matur structured as tragedy.Boats carrying the illegal immigrants are documented as abstract photographic images. The series is accompanied by the poems of Bejan Matur.

The exhibition will be on display between 6 December 2010 and 19 January 2011 at CerModern.

The exhibition focuses on refugees, one of the most dramatic facts of the world today.

The colours were the principal factor that brought Günyeli and Matur together in the project. “In this project, I seeked multiculturalism and drama through colours. I tried to reflect the drama of refugees in the minimalistic form. I was inspired by the texture of the boats and stripped colours in abandoned boatyards.

Bejan Matur describes her first seen of the prints;

“The stripped colours of the textures, I compared them to human wounds. The sea in blue tones and the death in the red. Because their land is blue. Somehow, there were human faces on those textures.

A significant collaboration between literature and painting which exists in the modern art tradition of Turkey emerges again through the collaboration of Günyeli and Matur offering a strong joint critical focus on “human trafficking”, which is a crime against humanity.
